Description
Summary

The basic designation for wildlife is the Natural Heritage Area (NHA). This is an area considered important for the habitats present or which holds species of plants and animals whose habitat needs protection. The Natural Heritage Area (NHA) designation covers Ireland and includes the marine environment up to 12 nautical miles from the baseline known as the Irish Territorial Sea. Data collected to designate a NHA released 2015-01-15. Data collected from surveys on wildlife. NHA boundary data defined to support Irish national legislation Wildlife 2000 Act. Data collected by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) whole role is to support the conservation of ecosystems across Ireland. NHA is incomplete as there is planned an update to include what are currently known as proposed NHAs or pNHAs.
