Description
Summary

Gravity is the measure of the force of attraction at any point on the Earths surface. This force will vary depending on the rock type present. Gravity data is used for interpreting sub-seabed geology often in the context of the hydrocarbon exploration and mining industry, as well as to define the boundaries of the sedimentary basins. Gravity data has been collected along survey lines. This dataset provides details of the gravity data mapped under both the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS) and INtegrated Mapping FOr the Sustainable Development of Irelands MArine Resource (INFOMAR) programmes. Gravity data from INFOMAR surveys have been collected in foreshore and offshore waters around Ireland. Gravity data has been collected between 2000 and 2007. Gravity data has been collected using gravity corers. Gravity data supports enhanced knowledge and understanding of the geologic nature of the sub seafloor. The INtegrated Mapping FOr the Sustainable Development of Irelands MArine Resource (INFOMAR) programme is a joint venture between the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) and the Marine Institute (MI). The programme is the successor to the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS) and concentrates on creating integrated mapping products related to the seabed. The gravity data coverage complete for the Irish zone areas of interest surveyed.
