Description
Summary

Data collected by the Coastal Processes Research Group, Plymouth University as part of Work Package 1 (WP1); The British Geological Survey as part of Work Package 2 (WP2); and The National Oceanography Centre, University of Southampton School of Ocean and Earth Science, and University of Cambridge Department of Geography as part of Work Package 3 (WP3) of BLUEcoast, a NERC funded project (NE/N015525/1) running from 2016 to 2022. These data comprise submissions of data collected between 2016 and 2020. Surveys for WP1 were conducted at Perranporth Beach, Cornwall and Start Bay, Devon, UK at different times and durations throughout 2016 and 2020. The data include: (1) quarterly single-beam echosounder bathymetric surveys, positioned using real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS; (2) annual Multi Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) bathymetric surveys; (3) monthly Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS/GNSS topographic surveys; (4) six-monthly (Spring, Autumn) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) topographic surveys; (5) hourly observations from a weather station at Perranporth Beach; and (6) data from two Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) deployed at two locations (-18 m and -26 m Ordnance Datum Newlyn) from Jul-Aug 2016 off the northern headland of Perranporth Beach. WP2 data include (1) Alongshore sediment transport data collected by DIST deployments on a mixed beach at Minsmere Cliffs, located between Dunwich and Sizewell, UK in January 2018; and (2) Beach thickness from seismic surveys at Perranporth Beach, Cornwall, UK in August 2017. For WP3, instruments were deployed at Morecambe Bay, Flookburgh sand flats and sub-tidal sites, Tillingham Marshes, Essex, and Perranporth, UK during winter/spring and summer fieldwork between January 2017 and February 2019. The data include Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), Suspended sediment transport (ABS, LISST), 3D Acoustic Ripple Profiler (3D-ARP), Optical backscatter sensor (OBS), SBE39 temperature and pressure (TP), SBE37 MicroCAT, EcoTriplet (CDOM/FDOM, Chlorophyll-a and Phycoerythrin fluorescence), ADV (Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter) and Phytoplankton Sampler (PPS) data. The WP3 data also includes Cross-shore transect evolution models (CMFT), and FVCOM (Finite Volume Community Ocean Model) outputs, as well as lab-based annular flume experimental data and investigation of flow dissipation and modification through biogenic structures over a range of scales (burrows, organisms, vegetated beds).
