| Summary | Data were collected within regular monitoring of phytoplankton abundance and community composition collected with a monthly frequency at several discrete depths in the Gulf of Trieste, from July 1998 to December 2001. The INTERREG Project was financed by Friuli Venezia Giulia Region - Environment Dir. and European Commission. Discrete water samples at 3 to 5 depth layers. Samples were fixed with Ca(HCO3)2-buffered formaldehyde (0.8% final concentration) and cell abundance and species composition of phytoplankton were estimated according to Utermöhl's method (1958), using an inverted microscope equipped with phase contrast, at 200-320-400x final magnifications. |
