Nutrient analyses were obtained by deploying a Technicon II AutoAnalyser system in a continuously recording manner during axial traverses of the estuary aboard a 12m length flat bottomed Rotork Seatruck. A submersible pump fixed at a depth of 1m provided a primary supply of estuarine water from which subsidiary streams were tapped for measurement of salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity and chlorophyll fluorescence. On each day's investigation, a single axial traverse covering some 20 to 30km was completed in approximately 2.5 hours and was repeated between two and five times. Ten surveys were carried out between June 1977 and August 1978.
