Description
Summary

This dataset contains microplastic contamination abundances sampled from sandy island beaches in the Galápagos Archipelago, Ecuador (Tortuga Bay, Santa Cruz and Punta Pitt, San Cristóbal) between 2019 and 2020. The sampling work was completed by supervised high school and university students as part of the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). The aim of the project is to reduce plastic leakage in the Eastern Pacific region and support the development of a sustainable, circular economic system for plastics. This dataset was collected and interpreted by colleagues at the University of Exeter, Galapagos Conservation Trust, University of the Sunshine Coast, Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Universidad Católica del Norte, Mola Mola Club Ecology Project International and the Marine Reserve Student Participation Project Galápagos and National Park Directorate under NERC grant reference NE/V005448/1.
