Description
Summary

Datasets collected under the NERC-funded PICCOLO project. All datasets were collected to define, quantify and provide mechanistic understanding of the key processes controlling the rate of carbon uptake in the lower limb of the Southern Ocean overturning circulation. These include Secchi disk depth and ocean colour data on the Forel-Ule LaMotte and Novoa at al. (2014) scales, collected by Dr. Robert J.W. Brewin (University of Exeter, UK) and Dr. Giorgio Dall'Olmo (OGS, Italy) between the 26th of January 2024 and the 1st of March 2024, during cruise SD035 in the Weddell Sea. Two Argo floats were deployed as part of the PICCOLO project, under Principal Investigator Dr. Giorgio Dall'Olmo (OGS, Italy). Their WMO numbers are 6990516 and 3902492, and were deployed on the Eastern shelf of the Antarctic Peninsula during cruise SD025 on the 15th of February 2023 and the 25th of February 2023 respectively. They were configured to collect near-real time vertical profiles of temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, fluorescence, CDOM, backscattering, nitrate and pH. Data are reprocessed in delayed mode. The PICCOLO Argo floats data can be downloaded through the Argo GDAC DOI: "http://doi.org/10.17882/42182".
