Description
Summary

This dataset contains outputs from a three-year ocean (Nucleus for European Modelling of the Ocean (NEMO)) model simulation over the Sri Lanka region, from 2019 to 2021. The model is at 1/60 degree resolution, based on the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO) bathymetry. It is forced with Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS), GLOBAL_MULTIYEAR_PHY_001_030-TDS, derived ocean boundary conditions and ERA5 atmosphere. The model configuration is named SRIL34. The outputs are stored in daily averaged grid-t, grid-u, and grid-v net CDF files. These outputs were used in other simulations contained within this dataset. The other simulations contained within this dataset were run using an ocean-biogeochemistry (NEMO v.4.0.4 - ERSEM) model forced with ERA5 atmosphere, and the outputs from the 3-year ocean NEMO model as lateral ocean boundary and initial conditions. The extent of the model is 4.4932 degrees N to 11.765 degrees N, and 77.275 degrees E to 83.5557 degrees E. The simulations used 1100T of passive tracers (urea, organic nitrogen compound) released at different rates from the region of the MV X-Press Pearl accident (approximately 7.0546 degrees N, 79.7589 degrees E). Two simulations were run over 1 hour and over 6 hours. The start date of the release is 25th of May 2021. These simulation start and end on: 01/05/2021 - 31/06/2021. The outputs are stored in one-month grid-u, grid-v, grid-w, grid-t, and tracer variable netCDF files containing hourly averages. Another simulation was run over 1 day, 7 days, and 15 days. The start date of the release is 25/05/2021. These outputs start and end on: 01/05/2021 - 31/07/2021. The outputs are stored in daily averaged grid-u, grid-v, grid-w, grid-t, and tracer variable netCDF files. The last simulation was run over 1 day, but the date of the release varies to 25th of January, 25th February, 25th July, 25th September and 25th October (2021). These simulations start and end respectively on: 01/01/2021 - 31/03/2021; 01/02/2021 - 30/04/2021; 01/07/2021-31/09/2021; 01/09/21 - 30/11/2021; 01/10/2021 - 31/12/2021. The outputs are stored in daily averaged grid-u, grid-v, grid-w, grid-t, and tracer variable netCDF files. All outputs were generated under the Climate Linked Atlantic Sector Science (CLASS) programme and the South Asian Nitrogen Hub (SANH; NE/S009019/) project.
