Description
Summary

This dataset consists of low coverage whole genome resequencing of global Mytilus sp. samples collected from Chile, United States of America, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, United Kingdom, Germany, and Greece. Blue mussels (Mytilus sp.) were collected from 22 coastal, estuarine, and harbour locations. Sample collection took place between 10th October 2018 and 1st April 2019. The data are comprised of raw sequence reads. DNA libraries were prepared using the NEBNext Ultra II FS DNA Sample Preparation Kit (New England Biolabs) and Illumina TruSeq adapters following the manufacturers guidelines. The quality was checked using the Tapestation D1000 before pooling samples. The pooling accuracy was checked using the Illumina MiSeq. Sequencing (150 paired-end) was then carried out using an Illumina Novaseq 6000 to 5-fold coverage. These data were collected as part of a project that aimed to study the impact of elevated temperature and reduced salinity on different species of marine mussels from across their global range. The project employed novel genetic technology to develop an industry relevant tool (SNP array) to assist in the production of climate resilient mussels. Sampling and sequencing pipelines were led by Dr Robert Ellis (University of Exeter, Biosciences) as part of the Discovery Science project "Flexing your mussels: futureproofing shellfish aquaculture in the face of global climate change" funded by the Natural Environmental Research Council, UK (NERC) (grant reference NE/R013241/1). Data are archived at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
