Description
Summary

The Biological Influence on Future Ocean Storage of Carbon (BIO-Carbon) dataset comprises hydrographic, biogeochemical, and biological data. The bulk of the data were collected in 2024 during two research cruises to the North East Atlantic Ocean and Icelandic Basin in spring (RRS Discovery cruise DY180) and autumn (RRS James Cook cruise JC269). Measurements were taken using a variety of instrumentation including CTD and marine snowcatchers. Glider and Autosub Long Range (ALR) missions were also undertaken in the same region in spring/summer 2024. Data were also collected from laboratory experiments and analysis of existing datasets from the global oceans. The purpose of the BIO-Carbon programme is to reduce uncertainties in the biological contribution to ocean carbon storage. The programme is led by scientists at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (UK) and involves scientists from research institutions and universities across the UK. Data from the programme are held at the British Oceanographic Data Centre.
