Description
Summary

This dataset consists of dinoflagellate chloroplast genome sequencing of spontaneous mutant strains of Symbiodinium microadriaticum (GA1 and GA2). Sequencing of the samples took place at the University of Cambridge Department of Biochemistry in April 2021 and March 2024. The Symbiodinium mutants analysed were laboratory generated between 2018 and 2022 from an original wild type sample from the Red Sea from the scleractinian coral Stylophora pistillata. The laboratory grown samples were collected by centrifugation from liquid culture and DNA extraction was carried out using a NucleoSpin Tissue Mini Kit. The extracted Symbiodinium DNA was used to create libraries and subsequently sequenced to generate 60 M raw reads utilising an Illumina NovaSeq X Plus PE150 workflow. The data are comprised of raw sequence reads. These data were collected as part of a project that aimed to develop novel genetic tools for modifying dinoflagellate chloroplasts that have lost their photosynthesis gene due to coral bleaching. The Discovery Science project was led by Professor Christopher Howe and funded by the Natural Environmental Research Council, UK (NERC) (grant reference NE/X010503/1). Data are archived at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) under the accession number PRJNA1330361.
