This dataset comprises individual and group characteristic and relatedness data (size and DNA sequencing) of the sponge-dwelling Tusked Goby (Risor ruber). Sampling of Risor ruber took place from the patch reefs around Carrie Bow Cay, Belize, in July 2023. The fish were euthanised and transported back to the Smithsonian Field Station on Carrie Bow Cay where they were photographed, measured, and weighed. Specimens were preserved in 96% ethanol for transport to Newcastle University, UK, where whole genomic DNA was extracted in the laboratory using an Illumina NovaSeq 6000. The data were collected as part of the NERC Discovery Science grant ‘Exploring eusociality in a marine vertebrate- relatedness, dispersal and population connectivity in Risor ruber’ (NE/X012514/1), awarded to principal investigator Dr Theresa Rueger at Newcastle University. The size and weight data are archived at the British Oceanographic Data Centre and the RAD sequencing data have been archived at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (accession PRJNA1427305).
