| Description | |
| Summary | This dataset contains ECCO global model configurations and outputs (monthly and yearly between 1992-2020) that investigate atmospheric drivers of basin-wide geostrophic transport in the Atlantic, in addition to Python packages for manipulating adjoint sensitivity fields and relating ocean boundary pressures to transport within the ECCO model. The model configuration files allow users to conduct new simulation experiments or reproduce the state estimate simulation experiments generated for this project. The project aims to make the global ocean circulation comprehensible in terms of a small number of clearly defined processes, and hence to improve understanding of its influence on a range of important issues from sea level to heat transport. The ocean modelling outputs will be used to learn how those local processes influence ocean boundary pressures, and hence the global ocean plumbing. The new understanding will then be used to determine which future changes researchers can have confidence in, and to direct improvements of the next generation of climate models. The outputs generated from this project were funded by the NERC Discovery Science grant 'OceanBound' (grant ref NE/X01455X/1), awarded to principal investigator Chris Hughes at the University of Liverpool, School of Environmental Sciences. The model configuration files, Python packages and associated metadata are archived in version controlled GitHub repositories and published in DOIs through Zenodo. |
