Description
Summary

This dataset contains annual, monthly and 5-day ocean and ice output from integrations of the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) "Near Present Day" configuration using the Nucleus for European Modelling of the Ocean (NEMO) modelling framework version 4.2 with SI3 (Sea Ice modelling Integrated Initiative), and based on the recent UK Global Ocean and Sea Ice configuration version 9 (GOSI9), which has been documented comprehensively in Guiavarc’h et al. (2025). Forcing is provided by a version of the ERA-5 atmospheric reanalysis (Hersbach et al., 2020) with a climatologically adjusted surface air temperature field. Integrations start from 1976 following three passes through the 1976 forcing with temperature and salinity conditions reset to the initial state at the end of each pass to allow an initial adjustment of the dynamics and ice field. The end of the simulation will continue to remain close to present day, with a typical time lag of 1-3 months. The complete dataset includes: full 5-day, monthly and annual mean ocean fields; and daily mean values of a subset of 2-dimensional fields, including surface fields and bottom pressure. The integrations are on the 1/12° (eORCA12), 1/4° (eORCA025) and 1° (eORCA1) global grids, initialised from the World Ocean Atlas 2023 (Reagen et al., 2024) Climate Normal (30-year average) corresponding to 1971-2000. The NOC "Near Present Day" configuration and simulations were generated by scientists at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, and supported by the Natural Environment Research Council's AtlantiS project (NE/Y005589/1).
