Cabot Strait, Bay of Fundy, Northumberland Strait (between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia/New Brunswick respectively), Eastern Canada; Gulf of St. Lawrence, western North Atlantic
Mineralogical composition; Sediment grain size parameters; Sediment acoustics; Side-scan sonar; Sediment water content, porosity and surface area; Geological sample density; Bathymetry and Elevation
Single-beam echosounders; sidescan sonars
The data set comprises Burial Assessments Charts, each consisting of four boxes containing, for a 1km wide corridor: i) detailed bathymetry ii) results of sidescan sonar showing seabed sediments iii) a section showing the sub-bottom profile along the proposed route iv) an indication of the sediment thicknesses within the corridor, not always available v) tensions experienced by the Burial Assessment Tool vi) penetration achieved by the Burial Assessment Tool vii) any other relevant data (such as steep seabed slopes, bedforms seen during the survey, etc.) These surveys were carried out during 1991 along the Atlantic Provinces Cable System in the region of Cabot Strait between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, the Bay of Fundy between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and the Northumberland Strait between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia/New Brunswick.
