Description | |
Summary | To study trends in the numbers of grey seals and their distribution on the Swedish Baltic Coast. Being an exclusive fish predator, the grey seal is highly exposed to contamination with residue levels of persistent chemicals in the marine environment. This leads to the development of a complex disease syndrome among the seals from the 1960s on, resulting in elevated mortality, as will as reduced fertility among the females. The overall population trend within the Baltic is the net result of fecundity and mortality in the population. |
