Description
Summary

The aim of the project is to function as a source of reference when assessing temporal variation in the distribution of, and area occupied by, common macroalgae in the northern part of the Swedish west coast. The field sampling designs allows partioning between components that contribute to the total variation of the macroalgae. As in most cases of programmes monitoring biota, the mechanisms responsible for variation cannot clearly be defined because of the generality of the programme. The project is an integrated part of the total national monitoring programme run by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, and may also serve as a pointer to research areas needing more attention.
