BODC Cruise Metadata Report for RRS Discovery (74E3) cruise D132

Introduction

This report collates information from the BODC cruise inventory and oceanographic databases. It presents

Cruise Inventory Information

Long name RRS Discovery (74E3) cruise D132
Short name D132
Objectives and Narrative (1) Locate and survey possible fronts in the northeast Atlantic Ocean.
(2) Examine the horizontal and vertical structure of the winter mixed layer over 10 degrees of latitude.
(3) Establish the connection between surface temperatures derived from satellite infrared data and in-situ mixed layer temperatures.
(4) Examine the spatial variations of pressure, temperature, salinity and oxygen on those thermocline density surfaces that may outcrop and ventilate to the north and east.
(5) Technical equipment trials.
