AMT12 Bench salinometer measurements from underway samples
Originator's Protocol for Data Acquisition and Analysis
Samples were taken from the ship's non-toxic supply to provide a calibration for the SeaBird conductivity sensor attached to the SurfMet system. During the cruise 11 samples were collected and processed for salinity measurement.
A Guildline Autosal 8400B (BAS) salinometer was available for use on the cruise. The main salinometer was located in the Prep Laboratory and operated at 24°C bath temperature in 21-24°C ambient lab temperature. No problems with the salinometer or its performance were noted. All samples were processed according to WOCE standards and protocols.

BODC Data Processing Procedures
Data were submitted with the Post-Cruise Archive as a hard copy of the hand written bench salinometer logsheets. 11 samples were matched to metadata (date, time in GMT and position) using the sample numbers on the surface sampling log and bench salinometer logsheets provided to BODC. There were no discrepancies compared to metadata already loaded to the database.
No unit conversion was necessary as the units the data were supplied in the files matched the units for the parameter codes in the BODC Parameter Dictionary. The data were loaded to the database using established BODC procedures.
A parameter mapping table is provided below;
Originator's Parameter | Units | Description | BODC Parameter Code | Units | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Salinity (mean) | Dimensionless | Practical salinity of the water body by bench salinometer and computation using UNESCO 1983 algorithm | PSALBSTX | Dimensionless | n/a |
