ObjectivesObjective

To undertake seabed survey work in connection with offshore renewable developments located to the southwest of Shetland and Orkney.

Procedure

Providing weather conditions are suitable, Alba na Mara will depart from Fraserburgh on 6 September for southwest Shetland then after the half landing the second half of the cruise will focus on Orkney. If weather conditions are poor then survey work will commence at the protected sites in and around Orkney to make best use of the time available before moving to Shetland. RoxAnn transects at both sites will guide the deployment of the drop frame TV and, where practical, the deployment of a day grab and Agassiz trawl. The survey work undertaken at the proposed sites will be the same or similar to survey work undertaken on previous cruises. Survey work at some of the Orkney sites will however be influenced by local tidal conditions limiting the deployment of the drop frame TV to periods around slack water.

Alba na Mara will complete a half landing at Kirkwall/Stromness on 13 September to exchange scientific staff. On completion of the survey work, Alba na Mara will return to unload at Fraserburgh on 19 September.

Normal contacts will be maintained with the laboratory.
