Objectives | Aims
1. To acquire 100% coverage of designated areas of the Prawle Point to Plymouth Sound SAC with Multibeam swath bathymetry in partnership with NE. 2. Identify areas of high and low fishing pressure within the JNCC primary sampling area using acoustic techniques and undertake a grab sampling survey. 3. Acoustic and underwater camera survey at Haig Fras in partnership with JNCC. 4. Survey alternative JNCC sampling areas dependant on weather and/or lack of success at primary sampling area. Cruise Plan Cefas Endeavour will proceed to the JNCC primary sampling area (Approx 140nm) and undertake a multibeam swath bathymetry and sidescan sonar followed by a grab sampling (Aim 2). If the acoustic survey is unsuccessful in terms of identifying a fishing pressure gradient or the weather does not permit sampling an alternative sampling area will be surveyed (Aim 4). The vessel will then proceed to the Haig Fras SAC and undertake an acoustic and underwater video survey (Aim 3). There will be a second change of scientists on or around the 20/01/11 either on the Scilly Isles or in Falmouth depending on the weather. On completion of this work the Cefas Endeavour will transit back to Lowestoft arriving no later than the morning of the 3rd February. |
