Cruise period1977-10-20 — 1977-10-31
StatusCompleted
Port of departurePlymouth, United Kingdom
Port of returnPlymouth, United Kingdom
PurposeResearch
ObjectivesThis cruise was made as part of a study of the processes of sand movement by tidal currents. The detailed aims were:
(a) Handling trials and shakedown of new multicore cable.
(b) Sea trials of sand transport probe.
(c) To make simulataneous measurements of the turbulent components of velocity and suspended sediment concentration, to allow turbulent sediment fluxes to be calculated (CUVW experiment).
(d) To make turbulent velocity measurements under known simple conditions, as a basis for the comparison with the more complicated conditions encountered when sediment is moving over a duned sand bed.
