''Explorer'' called at Stornoway on the 29/08/1978 for repairs to the radar and Decca navigation units. The ship had to deviate on the 31/08/1978 to Scrabaster to land a sick crew member. A half landing took place at Stornoway from the 04/09/1978 till the 06/09/1978 and there was a change in personnel. Gales halted and delayed work
