ObjectivesThe objectives of this cruise were:
(1) To recover and re-lay moorings on the continental slope west of Porcupine Bank. Accomplished.
(2) To work a CTD section across the continental slope west of Porcupine Bank. Abandoned due to poor weather.
(3) To recover and re-lay the dummy waste drum mooring for colonisation studies at the NEA dumpsite. Accomplished.
(4) To collect large-volume water samples for 14C, 226/228Ra, 137Cs, 3H and 3He along a meridional deep water track in the eastern Atlantic. Accomplished.
(5) To collect CTD profiles and water samples for nutrients along same section. Accomplished.
(6) To collect fish trap samples. Three deployments possible returning two Coryphaenoides and a number of amphipods.
(7) To take sediment cores on the approach to and at the NEA dumpsite. Accomplished.
(8) To deploy moored 226/228Ra collectors. Not done.
(9) To deploy XBTs on appropriate underway sections. Deployed on meridional section.
(10) To collect near-bottom water samples at the NEA dumpsite for 222Rn analysis. Accomplished.
(11) To study the bottom nepheloid layer at the NEA dumpsite using CTD, nephelometers and water samples. Accomplished.
(12) To obtain a continuous underway profile of particulate concentration across the shelf edge using the HIAC system. Accomplished.
(13) To work a neuston net transect of the Celtic Sea. Worked, but catches were very low.
(14) To study the behaviour of waste containers under normal operating conditions. Accomplished.
