PurposeResearch
Objectives1) Sampling and analysis of biogenic sulphur compounds in the sea and marine atmosphere at the time of Phaeocystis blooms in the southern North Sea (contract financed by the CEC).
2) Related hydrographic observations (temperature, salinity, chlorophyll, inorganic nutrients, etc.), and measurements of primary production using Carbon 14 and Oxygen methods.
3) Biochemical studies on Phaeocystis blooms - partitioning of organic carbon and nitrogen in dissolved and particulate phases, mucous production, and phosphorus assimilation.
4) Secondary production (copepods) and geochemical (water column and sediments) studies in waters affected by Phaeocystis.
