Port of departureGreenock, United Kingdom
Port of returnBarry, United Kingdom
PurposeResearch
Objectives1. A multichannel seismic (mcs) and ocean bottom seismometer (OBS) survey of the Reykjanes Ridge active spreading centre at 61-62 degrees north, to investigate the effect of the Iceland plume on active rifting processes.
2. Another mcs and OBS survey of the Edoras Bank continental margin, in an area already drilled by the DSDP.
The two surveys will provide crustal constraints on rifting within the sphere of influence of the Iceland Plume: the Reykjanes Ridge at the present day, and the Edoras Bank at the time of continental breakup.
