ObjectivesStudy of Continental Air Mass. Part of the eastern Atlantic experiment within the NERC funded ASCOE project. Aims are to investigate the oxidation of sulphur and nitrogen species over the North Atlantic. Land (Mace Head, Eire), ship (Challenger) and aircraft (C-130 Hercules and Jetstream) platforms have been used to make measurements. These include surface water dimethyl sulphide (DMS), aerosol phase nitrogen, sulpur, metal and anionic species, gas phase nitrogen and sulphur species and rain water. The cycles of sulphur, nitrogen and metal species are thought to be linked and important in climate control: this project aims to investigate this further.
