ObjectivesAim:
To compare catch rates of sole in fixed nets from different grounds in the Hastings Shingle Bank area.

Trip 1: 7th - 13th March 1995
Up to 8 fleets of 4" trammel nets were worked by each vessel for 7 days.
FV St Richard : 2.5 - 3.5miles off, east of Hastings
FV Sandra: 3.5 - 4miles off Hastings, inshore of the Shingle Bank dredging area.

Trip 2: 6th - 11th April
Up to 8 fleets of 4" trammel nets were worked by each vessel for 6 days.
FV St Richarrd: 2 - 3miles off Fairlight and Hastings
FV Sandra: 3.5 - 4.5miles off Hastings inshore of the Shingle Bank dredging area.

Trip 3: 5th-11th May
5 fleets of 4" trammel nets were worked by both boats for 7 days
FV St Richard and FV Sandra: 3.5 - 4miles off Hastings inshore of the Shingle Bank dredging area.

Results:
1) All sole caught were measured and examined for sex and maturity stage.
2) Observations on feeding of sole were also made.
3) Sea surface temperatures were noted on all trips.
4) All other commercial species caught were noted.
5) A full sample of sole was retained to complete length, weight, sex ratio, maturity stage and age studies.
