Adverse weather conditions and a crew member requiring medical attention meant that work did not start in the Balta area till the 03/05/1981. ''Explorer' 'put into Lerwick for a mid cruise break till the 08/05/1981. Trials were delayed till the 09/05/198 off Balta due to bad weather. The ship steamed south on the 12/05/1981 to the Moray Firth grounds. No deep water work was possible owing to time lost due to bad weather.
