Purpose | Research |
Objectives | The objectives were to analyse the long-term history of the strength of the Mediterranean outflow by collecting a series of long piston cores in areas identified from previous geophysical surveys, in particular the TOBI survey carried out on RRS Discovery cruise D244. To test and utilise the scatterometer to determine sediment characteristics.
Good progress was made with the giant piston corer. The scatterometer was not successful. Sufficient cores were collected in sandy and muddy environments to provide significant information on the history of the Mediterranean outflow. |
