Purpose | Trials |
Objectives | This cruise is in 2 parts.
1. To trial scientific equipment that will be used during the first research cruises on board CEFAS Endeavour. The trials are to: a) ensure that deployed equipment can be safely deployed and recovered; b) once deployed, that the equipment functions correctly; c) non-deployed equipment (echo sounders, IT systems, data logging etc.) is functioning correctly and to familiarise staff with its use; d) to familiarise officers, crew and scientists with the vessel, her equipment and cabilities; e) to provide training opportunities for personnel involved in the use of new equipment and capabilities. 2. Undertake a multi-beam acoustic survey of wreck site in Dunwich area. 3. Undertake a multi-beam acoustic survey of relinquished gravel extraction site 222. 4. Evaluate Scanmar trawl monitoring system. 5. Test ITI trawl monitoring system (success of this item is essential for cruise 6/03). 6. Test and accept TV/Satellite system. 7. Continue with design EDC carriers for wet-lab. 8. Design balance head fittings for wet-lab. 9. Monitor CT room temperature controls. 10. Verify reeving on gear for below-deck winches. 11. If practical, to collect biological samples for species where market-based sampling is likely to be deficient in 2003 for EU data regulation requirements: a) cod, length and otolith samples; b) skates and rays, morphometric, maturity and length weight; c) turbot and brill length and otolith samples. 12. If practical, recover and redeploy gabbard buoy. 13. If time and weather conditions allow, complete configuration of workboat davits. |
