ObjectivesWork during the first leg was performed in the area south of the Santos Plateau up to the Vema Channel which is part of the Rio Grande Rise. Twelve moorings were set on a line between the continental slope and the Vema Channel. They are designed to monitor the current and temperature changes in the transition zone between the Argentine and the Brazil Basin over two years. Hydrographic and acoustic Doppler current measurements (ADCP) and biological sampling were part of the programme.
