| Objectives | To survey the North Sea area from the Scottish coast to 1° E and between 55° 30'N and 57° 30'N, using sonar and the fish echo counter, with associated fish sampling by pelagic trawl. All hauls contained a large number of medusae which comprised the bulk of the catch. |

| Pelagic fish | Quantity: number of hauls = 13 Description: 1-hour hauls using a midwater trawl with a 1/2 mesh codend. A net sounder was used with most of these to determine the depth of the net. Sprats were common in 2 hauls exclusively composed of 1-group fish. Herring were taken in 6 hauls, sandeels composed of 0-group and A. marinus were taken in all hauls |

Haddock were taken in 9 hauls, saithe occurred in 7 hauls, 0-group T.esmarki in 5 hauls, whiting were rarely caught, and cod were also caught. 2 hauls contained T.minutus and another contained grey gurnards |
