Objectives1. To make trawl hauls in areas between Lowestoft and Aldeburgh where Skippers of inshore fishing vessels, working from Lowestoft had reported oil contamination of the seabed.
2. To obtain samples of the seabed from Dunwich Bank.

All fish and benthos were examined for oil. Gut contents of all species of fish caught were examined. Small samples of oil on both net and fish were preserved

Description: Trawl hauls made using a 78ft headline length Granton trawl rigged with a 3 and a half inch diameter rubber disc groundrope and no bridles. The bosum groundrope was wrapped with heavy chain. After the first haul a 70ft long 5/8 inch diameter mid-wing tickler chain was added. After each tow the net was carefully examined for oil on the meshes, groundropes, chains and trawl doors.
