RadioactivityQuantity: number of stations = 8
Description: Radiological survey: stations between Windscale and Holyhead, and Holyhead and Dublin
Contamination
Bottom depositsQuantity: number of stations = 6
Description: 2 stations in between hauls made with the gamma-spectrometry probe. At each station a seabed sample was taken for reference purposes. While at anchor off Seascale, the gamma-spectrometry probe was used to monitor possible time-variations in the sea-water activity at 5 fathoms. A series of gamma-spectrometry probe stations were made on a line running northwards from the pipeline outfall to the South Workington buoy. 3 additional stations close to the pipeline from the CEGB nuclear power station at Wylfa, 1 near to the pipeline outfall from AEE Winfrith
Biology and fisheries
SestonQuantity: number of hauls = 9
Description: Made in the Solway Firth with the Tin Tow Net to obtain bulk plankton samples for activity analysis
Demersal fishQuantity: number of hauls = 7
Description: 435 fish yielded for marking from 1 haul in 2 miles south of the Windscale effluent outfall, 3 hauls yielding 1280 plaice.
