Objectives1) Preliminary trawling and gear testing work.
2) Hydro and Plankton stations were worked on route. Hydrographic sampling for temperatures, salinities and phosphates were taken at all standard depths from 0-200 m.
3) An intensive plankton survey for blue whiting larvae took place.
4) Underwater camera was fitted to the headline of the trawl whenever conditions were suitable. It was also used to identify the organisms producing a midwater trace off the southern edge of Rockall.
5) The Marconi Seagraph for most of the echosounding survey, some records were obtained with the expanded scale recorder

Mr Ritchie joined ''Explorer'' at Stornoway on the 02/06/1967. Catches included blue whiting, both species of silver smelt, haddock, coalfish, ling, rays, rabbit fish, and corals.
