Objectives1) To conduct a mid-water trawling survey for blue whiting in the area between Faroes and east Iceland
2) An echo-survey was carried out to locate the most intense blue whiting traces
3) Radio-telephone contact was made twice a day with RV ''G.O.Sars'' to exchange information with the progress made
4) The Simrad scientific sounder was used throughout the cruise
5) The surface thermograph was run continuously during the cruise
6) Samples of otoliths and stomachs were collected for further analysis

A call was made at Klaksvik from the 02/12/1970 till the 03/12/1970 to meet ''G.O Sars'' for discussion about collaboration during the cruise. The ship was forced to heave on the 04/12/1970 by the weather till the 07/12/1970. ''Explorer'' returned to Klalsvivk for repairs on the 09/12/1970 sailing again on the 11/12/1970. A brief call was made at Toshavn to compare echo-sounder records with ''G.O.Sars'', it returned again on the 18/12/1970 to collect mail and was delayed by high winds till the 19/12/1970.
