To determine the extent to which phytoplankton cysts and copepod eggs are re-suspended in the sediment plumes behind objects towed over the sea bed. Narrative Narrative The Clupea left Fraserburgh on 20 November and steam towards Burghead. That afternoon and the following day the sledge was towed on muddy ground with the door or one of the groundgear elements attached and sediment plumes sampled using the pup nets and the LISST 100X. Sedinet samples were also taken by the Sholkovitz corer and/or the day grab. Due to very poor weather conditions the Clupea headed to Invergordon and was alongside during 22 November. Over the following few days similar series of trials tool place in sandy-muddy ground in Nairn Bay and sandy ground off Golspie. The presence of phytoplankton cysts and copepod eggs will be determined on return to the Laboratory. The Clupea returned to Fraserburgh on the evening of the 25 November and staff, equipment and samples returned to Aberdeen the following morning. |
