1. To carry out a survey of scallop stocks around Shetland.
2. To collect information on by-catches of other commercial fish and shellfish species.
3. To collect biological data on scallop growth rates.
The scientific staff joined FRV Clupea at 0930 hours on 15 March, but due to bad weather, did not sail from Fraserburgh until 0600 on 20 March. Sampling began NE of Sumburgh at 0700 on 21 March and continued around Shetland until the survey was completed at 1400 on 29 March. Due to lost days at the start of the trip not all sampling positions were sampled on the first two days ,the original sampling program was reverted to once we received an additional two days at the end of the trip and the majority of the missed hauls were picked up. On completion, Clupea set sail for Fraserburgh arriving back in Fraserburgh at 1000 on 30 March. All equipment and samples returned to the laboratory on 31 March.
