Objectives | This cruise is the fourth RAPID-WAVE cruise in Line W. WAVE, which for stands for West Atlantic Variability Experiment, is a NERC funded project to study the variability of the Meridional Overturning Circulation in the Northwest Atlantic. The three previous cruises in Line W took place in 2004 (deployment of 6 lander Bottom Pressure Recorders, or BPRs), 2006 (recovery and redeployment of BPRs: 2 lander BPRs were recovered, 4 were lost, and 5 new landers were deployed), and May 2008 (3 lander BPRs were recovered and 2 deployed; operations were suspended due to bad weather). In the present cruise, the objectives were:
1.To recover two additional lander BPRs at sites W4 and W2. 2.To deploy 3 SeaBird 53 BPRs at sites W2, W3, W4 (now called M2, M3 and M4). This cruise was carried out in collaboration with the Woods Hole Institution of Oceanography (WHOI) on board the RV Endeavor of the University of Rhode Island. John Toole (WHOI) was the PSO for the this cruise. Peter Foden and Miguel Maqueda made the Proudman Oceanoraphic Laboratory crew for this cruise. | ||||||||
