Objectives | This cruise was planned primarily to use the new IGS 6m rock drill to identify rock outcrops in areas where solid rock was covered by a few metres of unconsolidated sediment in the Fair Isle area are difficult to define on geophysics alone and so it was particularly important to recover sufficient identifiable material so that accurate contacts could be mapped. During the cruise a number of additional grab samples were collected for a special study of the living fauna by biologists at the Royal Scottish Museum. In weather down time cores from the previous cruises in the Malin and Foula area were cut and logged and in poor weather a number of gravity core and grab samples were collected to the west of Orkney. |
