1) To investigate the potential of two sites in the vicinity of Bell Rock and St Abbs Head as sites for sewage sludge dumping
2) To sample a transect between Middle Craig and Joppa in the Firth of Forth for comparison with previously collected intertidal sampling

Part 2
To investigate mercury, copper, lead, zinc, and cadmium in water, particulate matter, and surface film at 14 stations in the Firth of Forth

Due to fog, ''Mara'' dropped anchor off in the Tay estuary, arriving in Dundee on the 12/09/1975 to embark crew members. Sailing was delayed until the 13/09/1975. The ship returned to Methil on the 16/08/1975 to disembark a crew member, sailing again on the 17/08/1975. An extra series of stations were worked on the 27/08/1975.
