ObjectivesThe cruise is part of the ICES coordinated herring larvae surveys, which are carried out in September/October and December/January. This survey covers the Northern and Central North Sea. In each ICES rectangle (see cruise map) 9 double oblique hauls are made with the Gulf VII plankton torpedo with mounted CTD. The Gulf VII is fitted with a 20 cm diameter conical nose and a standard net of 280 µm mesh size. All larvae data are stored in a central database at the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries and Fishery Ecology in Hamburg, Germany.
