Objectives | Objective was to collect data and samples of herring west of the British Isles to be used in stock separation research. After collecting two co-operating scientists from the FRS Marine Laboratories and from Aberdeen University respectively, in Aberdeen, the vessel arrived at the first of three areas of investigation, "Cape Wrath" in the morning of March 21st. Here, as in the other two areas "West of Hebrides" and "Santon Bank", a pelagic trawl was used to gather samples of herring and to record the species and length composition of the pelagic fish fauna. Each of the 12 hauls was accompanied by a CTD profile. While the target for sampling was ripe and running hering in the first two areas of investigation, the samples from Stanton Bank were to be juvenile herring. |
