The cruise is part of the ICES coordinated herring larvae surveys, which are carried out in September/October and December/January. The survey covers the southern North Sea. In each ICES rectangle 9 double oblique hauls are made with the Gulf VII plankton torpedo with mounted CTD. The Gulf VII is fitted with a 20 cm diameter conical nose and a standard net of 280 μm mesh size. All larvae data are stored in a central database at the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences.
