ObjectivesObjectives

1. To undertake groundtruthing survey work over electrical cables and hydrocarbon pipelines to assess their potential interaction with the local epifauna.

Procedure

MRV Alba na Mara will depart from Greenock Harbour pm on 27 October. The nature of the work will be heavily dependent on the prevailing weather conditions encountered, however, contingency sites have been identified to keep downtime to a minimum. The priority area of interest is located in the red box shown on the map below. Alternative cables will be targeted to suit the conditions encountered. The proposed survey work is very similar to the collection of video-footage for recent renewables involving the deployment of the TV drop frame. Some additional bathymetric survey work may be undertaken along the cable/pipeline routes where changes in the sea bed morphology are evident. Surface sediment samples may also be collected using a day grab and agassiz trawl if changes in the epifauna are observed. On completion of the survey work the vessel will return to unload at Greenock Harbour on 2 November.
