International Ecosystem Summer Survey in the Nordic Seas (IESSNS). The major aim is abundance estimation with precision estimates of Northeast Atlantic (NEA) mackerel. Secondary aim is abundance estimation of Atlantic blue whiting, thereby establishing a new fishery independent index on abundance to be used in the assessment of this stock. An important objective is also to understand the Norwegian Sea ecosystem and especially the distribution, migration, feeding and spatial overlap of important pelagic planktivorous species (mackerel, herring and blue whiting) in relation to hydrography, plankton and top predators.
