ObjectivesMackerel Egg Survey August 2016. Every three years the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) coordinates a series of mackerel and horse mackerel egg surveys covering the northeastern Atlantic from Gibraltar to the Faeroes between January and July. The aim of this survey programme is to assess the northeastern Atlantic mackerel and horse mackerel stock. The Marine Institute participates in this programme. During 2016 the Marine Institute proposes carrying out a survey in August, covering stations to the West of Ireland and West of Scotland, to check if horse mackerel spawning is moving later in the year.
