3) Samples of T.esmarkii, M.poutassou, herring, sprat, mackerel, and Pandalus were deep frozen for further examination at the laboratory. All squid were deep frozen to supply food for the aqaurium

A seaman was disembarked in Scrabaster. ''Explorer'' anchored in Shapinsay from the 14/11/1977 till the 15/11/1977. The ship docked for a mid-cruise break on the 17/11/1977 in Lerwick will the 19/11/1977. Due to bad weather conditions, it was not possible to undertake the JONSIS line.

Description: monitoring & surveillance of demersal fish. A 48ft Granton trawl and small mesh cover was used. A cod-end mesh size of 80 mm was used for all hauls. Whiting, haddock, cod, industrial species, flatfish, long rough dabs, common dabs, lemon sole, plaice, megrim, witch, brill, turbot were caught. Herring, sprats and other species were also caught.

Description: amphibians. Microscopic examination of haddock showed 131 were infected with Ichthyohonus hoferi. Serum samples were taken from 365 haddock and all plaice. Ouchterlony agar gel diffusion tests were carried out on 335 of them. Samples of serum were frozen for further analysis. Serum from 5 plaice, 3 brill, 50 haddock, 4 cod and 1 turbot was obtained with a note of fish maturity for analysis
