PurposeResearch
ObjectivesThe research undertaken on this cruise fell under the following broad categories:
1. Biological studies of zooplankton biogeography.
2. Distribution of phytoplankton in the horizontal and vertical.
3. Nutrient distributions.
4. Carbonate chemistry including pH and Alkalinity measurements.
5. Physical oceanography of the region covered by the cruise track.
6. Macro- and Micro-Plastic distribution.
7. Bioluminescence distributions.
8. Sargassum species and faunal population.

In support of these projects, we conducted the following station work:
1. Surface Neuston plankton tows - 44
2. Deep (~100-200 m) meter net tows - 1
3. Hydrocast stations for sampling concentrations of chlorophyll a, nitrate, phosphate, microplastics, pH and Alkalinity with on-board CTD profiles - 24
4. Additional CTD salinity/temperature/depth/dissolved oxygen/ downwelling light/ in situ chlorophyll a profiles - 6
5. Bathyphotometer deployments to measure bioluminescence as a function of depth - 9
6. Dip net samples of Sargassum - 7
7. Continuous flow-through measurements of chlorophyll a fluorescence, temperature, salinity, CDOM, turbidity.
8. Continuous bottom depth and oceanic currents measurements.
